Dog of The Day-12-25-2019


Name:	Coco	Age:	Three years old
Gender:	Female	Breed:	Border Collie
Home:	West Virginia, USA
Coco is our three-year-old Border Collie, she lives with her human parents in WV. She has been a only pet since losing two siblings in 2017 her 10 year old sheltie brother Robbie and her 17 year old sister Cattle dog Zoe. Then she lost her cat sister Belle in 2018 Coco is a pure joy and also is a handful She keeps us old folks busy. She loves all her toys and her yard, if it isnt raining and muddy she will be in the yard. She wants to wish everyone a very merry Christmas We got her because our mixed cattle dog rescue Zoe was 16 1/2 years old and we wanted our ten-year-old Sheltie to have a playmate, and not be so sad when she died. Sadly he died unexpectedly, about three months after we got her. Then Zoe lived to the ripe old age of 17 ( she died seven months after Robbie due to a stroke).Coco is super smart, she runs the family and gets what she wants. She knows several words, car, treat, park, Daddy etcetera, so we do a lot of spelling. She is very active and I guess because she is an only pet she demands for us to play ball with her. She will come to the door and bark and heard one of us out Coco was digging holes when she was 1 year old, and we had to keep filling them. She was bored so we made hurdles and hoops in the yard and she loved It! She stopped her digging. She is so different from our other four dogs We had a half border collie mix from rescue (our first dog) and she is a little like her, but more intense and demanding. Coco has her own mind and if you try and change it no way! If she wants or brings you her red football and you throw her frisbee, she will not catch it and wait for her ball. We love her deeply and she keeps the whole family on our toes. She has been a huge comfort, because we have lost not only our dear Zoe and Robbie but also many family members since 2017. Even through she is full of energy she is so loving and affectionate and super obedient, being in our late 60s it would be impossible if she wasn't such a well-behaved girl.

   Hi, this is Ronja, and she is a Black Lab. She is a sweet dog. When I get up in the morning, she always wants to play with me, and will bring me a toy to throw. She follows me happily wherever I go.   

     Ronja likes playing with a ball best of all. She wants to sit with me whenever I am home, even when I am just doing my homework. She loves to sleep, but also she likes  going outside. The door is usually open for her. She is such a good dog, when I call her, she will come running right to me. I love Ronja very much

   Gunther technically is my sister's dog, but I know he is still the nicest dog ever! And he thinks we all belong to him, not just my sister. When you go out back with him, his tail will wag worst than anything he's so happy! Whoever you are! All he wants to do is play, he never tries to hurt people, even though he can be a bit overly energetic sometimes. 

     He is most special because he is gentle with children - he knows they are different and is very careful around them. He has even lets my ten-month-old niece pull on his ear to get up, and he lets her crawl all over him! The worst he has ever done, was lick her face! And that made her giggle and stop pulling his ear, it was so cute!  So that's why he should be honored.

   I read once that the fingerprint of God is often a paw print. And that is the way I feel about a treasured member of our family, Krystal.  I adopted her two years ago and in that short period of time she has moved into every corner of my heart.  She came to me at a time when I needed her the most. Every day of her life is centered around our family.  Even with her small stature, she takes pride in guarding our household from 'possums and squirrels! 

     Krystal, like all dogs,  lives in the moment, never worrying about what happened yesterday or what is to come tomorrow.  Every moment is precious to her.  I only wish I could live her way.  She is an inspiration, a comfort, my friend, and the apple of my eye.  Because of her, it is no surprise to me to know that DOG spelled backwards is GOD.

Gender:FemaleBreed:Chihuahua, Terrier mix
Home: Ohio, USA
 
   Maggie may not be as pretty as most of the Dogs of the Day. She has some scars and is missing one of her canine teeth. It is hard to say for sure what breed she is. When she scurries across the floor wiggling her little rear end she looks like a cross between a Chihuahua and a Guinea Pig. She is not as sweet and cuddly as a lot of dogs are. She is kind of grumpy sometimes, especially with some of the younger foster dogs who come for a stay and tend to annoy her. She's not mean, just feisty in a Grandma Walton kind of way as she tries to keep the young'uns in line.
