Primrose the Great Pyrenees, the Dog of the Day
Name:Primrose
Age:Deceased, one year old
Gender:FemaleBreed:Great Pyrenees
Home: Illinois, USA

It has been over two years since I said goodbye to my beautiful girl Primrose. Hardly a day goes by when I don't think of her. I thought it'd be nice to write this as a little tribute to her. I got Primrose on my 16 birthday. (Forget owning a car, I definitely preferred having a puppy!) She was about 3 months old and came from a large litter. The first day I got her I took tons of pictures. I couldn't believe how cute she was, or that I actually had my own dog! My family owns an older Rottweiler, Sadie, who wasn't too sure about having a sibling, especially one so energetic and annoying! Our barn cat Beatrice  decided she wasn't a fan of the new pup from the beginning. Upon the first meeting she almost scratched Prim in the nose! Luckily Sadie started to warm up to Prim and the two enjoyed playing together out in the yard and would even cuddle on a rare occasion. I can't say Sadie was a fan of having her ears licked though!

Prim loved being outside, especially in the cooler weather. Some days we would literally spend an hour trying to coax her to come in! She was full of energy almost all the time! Luckily we had a big enough yard for her to burn most of it off. She never quite mastered come, purely because she didn't want us to bring her back inside! She adored snow and would spend her whole day romping and playing in it if she could. (Maybe other GP owners can relate to this, lol) Prim was never the easiest dog to take out for a walk, as she got big and strong quickly and liked to chase cars! (We never let her do that of course) When we did go out on walks, she enjoyed playing in the creek behind my house, especially on hot days to help cool off. Taking long walks with Prim always made a rough day better.

Prim loved everyone she met, and everyone loved her. She would always try to get you to engage in a game of chase or tug of war. When her energy was lower, you could expect her to plop down in your lap and try to cuddle.  Digging was another past time that she enjoyed, although my parents definitely weren't fans of that one. We stopped giving her bones cause they would always go missing. We soon realized why!

February 29th, now over two years ago, was the last day I saw my Primrose. I was getting ready to take her for a walk and of course she was very excited about this. As I was walking up to clip her leash on, she started having a seizure and fell to the ground. As I watched it happen I quickly came to the horrifying realization that she was dying, and there would be nothing anyone could do to save her. Within about a 2 minute time span, she was gone. To this day, we are unsure what happened. The vets believed that she could have been born with a weak heart and that her heart could have stopped. She had always seemed so healthy and strong, I was devastated. Having Sadie has helped me to move on, but rarely does a day go by without me thinking of my Prim. Above the window in my room I have a row of photographs of her as a reminder of what a wonderful dog she was. I am grateful I got to the opportunity to be her person, even if it was just for a short while.

     In loving memory of Primose

Dog of The Day-4-28-2020

Scooby and Daisy the West Highland Terriers, the Dog of the Day
Name:Scooby, Daisy
Age:Four years old, Three years old
Gender:Male, FemaleBreed:West Highland Terrier
Home: Palm Bay, Florida, USAA

What makes my Westies special is the love that they show me every day. They are two peas in a pod and they just love each other and their Mom. Their nicknames are Scooby Doo and Daisy Mae. They are very smart dogs and their personalities are out of this world. Very friendly, they just love people, Scooby's motto is "I am a lover not a fighter" he does not have a mean bone in his body. He greets everyone with love and just wants attention from you. He says pet me, play with me and in return I will give you kisses all over your face.  Daisy is the alpha dog in the pack, she keeps Scooby in line and she is the protector. She has a lot of motherly instincts, her motto is " Don't mess with my Momma or my Brother, or you will pay" She is not mean in any way but when we are at the dog park she sticks right next to me and if any other dogs come over to me she lets them know not to get to close. The same with her brother, if someone is playing too hard with Scooby, she will go over to the other dog and bark at him, saying "Don't mess with my brother." Everyone at the dog park calls her "The no fun police."

Both dogs are very affectionate when they want to be, my little girl is more affectionate than her brother. Scooby is Mr. Independent but when he wants a hug and a belly rub from Mom he can be very affectionate. But if Mom wants a hug from her pup and he does not want to give a hug, then he becomes Mr. Wiggly right out of my arms. It's like how dare you pick me up, I am a big boy.

Their favorite things to do are chasing squirrels, digging holes and going to the dog park. They know the basic tricks, sit, give me paw, lay down and their favorite games to play is chasing squeaky gator in the back yard. They love to take rides with Mom and I take them up to the Pet Store for their bully stick. Everyone at the pet store know who Scooby and Daisy are, they have entered a couple of costume contest. They took first place for the best dressed contest and at Halloween they took second place for best costume.

Every year we do a Christmas card and this year I made their outfits for them. Scooby just loves posing in his Top Hat with his Candy Cane vest and Daisy loves her Candy Cane dress and bow. Everyone ask me how do I get them to pose for me. I will let you know my secret; it's called a bag of treats!!! I hold the bag of treats over my head with one hand and the camera in the other. You get them to focus on the treats and snap away.

Dog of The Day-4-30-2020

Shelton the Shetland Sheepdog, the Dog of the Day
Name: Shelton
Age:Twelve years old
Gender:MaleBreed:Shetland Sheepdog

Home:

Clemmons, North Carolina, USA

Shelton is the most well-behaved dog we've ever seen. He is a Shetland Sheepdog - not, like some people think, a "miniature collie." Shelties are a separate breed, and of course, are from the Shetland Islands area of Scotland. He loves everyone and makes friends with everyone he meets. He's very smart and he's also our first dog. He is definitely part of our family.

Shelton loves to play tug of war and fetch with his favorite toys. Small noises drive him crazy sometimes, but that's what makes him special. No bad guy will ever sneak into our yard unnoticed, that's for sure. He's the best!

Hugs,

Angel
