Today's Dog-3-10-2016-New Thread | Name: | Maverick
| Age: | One and a half years old
| Gender: | Male | Breed: | German Shepherd
| Home: | Montana, USA | My dog's name is Maverick Mick Dundee, he is a German Shepherd. His parents came from Germany, but he was born here in America. Because of his German heritage, he does not have the sloped back like American German Shepherds from show dog lines tend to have.
Maverick was just two months old when I got him. He was a gift from my grandpa. He wanted me to feel safe when I went out into public on my own. My grandpa asked me what breed did I want and I knew exactly what breed, since the German Shepherd had always had been my dream dog.
Maverick helped me realize my talent in training dogs. He brings a smile to my face every day. I've taught him some dance moves and he taught me to be patient and just have fun. We are always learning new things about each other every day. He loves to do his tricks, he bows, waves, shakes, spins, weaves through my legs, backs up, prance, kicks out his paws with my feet, rounding up our mini horses and putting them away in their stall, and he knows all his basic commands, sit, lay down, stay, and in. He's loose leashed trained which helps a lot since he runs beside me on my bike. Most of the time he's off leash though.
He is very friendly to people but there are times he growls at strangers. I have studied his behavior around different people and I found out he looks directly into their eyes, reading their personality and tells me if he doesn't like them. Maverick is my world!

Today's Dog-3-11-2016 | Name: | Ame
| Age: | Eight months old
| Gender: | Female | Breed: | Siberian Husky
| Home: | Ohio, USA | Ame is a typical Siberian Husky. I will not go into difficulties - they are just like children, you do not complaint about the work, but rather appreciate the joys they give you.
Ame is from a working line kennel in New Hampshire, and will join my mushing team when she is old enough to be my up-and-coming star leader. I decided to get Ame because I needed a good mushing dog for my team; she is my 4th Siberian Husky. I have plans to get her sister from another litter this summer.
Her princess tiara was not for any special event. We have been taking monthly pictures with it as we watch her growth. And it's cute/ ;) She is smart, she knows sit, sit pretty, down, bow, spin, speak, shake, high five, etc. Pretty much everything basic.
Her favorite games to play would definitely be any involving pull training with a light plastic sled, we work on commands while keeping a tight tug. She is certainly affectionate, very friendly personality, easy to handle, confident, and a joy to have around. She is fairly vocal, not as vocal as one of my other siberians, but vocal enough to sass me.
She already shows great potential, and I am very proud of her progress here with me.

Today's Dog-3-12-2016-New Thread | Name: | Willow
| Age: | Eight weeks old
| Gender: | Female | Breed: | Chihuahua mix
| Home: | Los Angeles, California, USA | This is my newest baby, her name is Willow! Here is her story:
At the school where I intern, a stray dog used to roam about. I tried for weeks to rescue her. Over winter break, I received an email that this stray had puppies on campus! Then, it became my mission to rescue them all, get them medical care, and find them good homes! After several attempts, it became clear that the Mama was very protective and becoming aggressive. The school decided that it was now a safety concern, as the students play near where the puppies slept. Animal control came to the school on two occasions to try and rescue the dogs, but had no luck. A few days passed and I was notified that the crossing guard witnessed a driver purposefully hit the mother dog. She died instantly. A few staff members at the school swooped up the puppies and brought them inside for warmth, food, and shelter. At just 1-2 weeks old, I took home Willow, the runt of the litter. (The two other puppies found good homes with other staff members.)
Willow is growing so quickly and she is such a love bug! I feel so lucky that I was able to provide her with a safe and loving home. My other rescue dog, Hallie, who has also been featured here, loves Willow! She has acclimated to her new Mom/sister role and is teaching Willow so many new skills!
Here's to rescue dogs! They are truly amazing.
